Estate Planning Family Meetings

Once you sign an estate plan, it is critical that everyone is prepared to carry it out. As we always say, you cannot complete planning in a bubble! The different "agents" that will help you in the future include Powers of Attorney, Personal Representatives (Executors), and possibly one or more Trustees. When it comes time for them to step in, will they know where to go, who to call, or how to manage everything for you? At a basic level, do they even understand the roles you have named them to serve?

To help you prepare everyone for your plan, our office offers a "Family Meeting." This is an opportunity to meet with one of our attorneys and anyone you choose to involve, so that we can better prepare them to help when the time comes. The service we offer includes:

  • Up to one our of meeting time, virtually and/or in our office (we can set this for a hybrid meeting if you have people out-of-state!);
  • General education for everyone about estate planning, including your specific plans;
  • Instruction about each specific role and your agents’ duties;
  • Education for any heirs / beneficiaries about how your plan will carry out for them; and
  • An opportunity for questions and additional resources.

We will work with you to create a tailored agenda for your meeting, based on your preferences and concerns. You can find a sample Family Meeting agenda below.  Contact our office today and a staff meeting can assist you with scheduling!
